Italy!!!

Supposed to blog yesterday but no extra time to blog as I spent my time on short stories and other stuff. Yesterday was the day after Italy won their forth FIFA World Cup. 22 billions people from different path in the earth watched the match early in the morning and the match ended at 5 a.m. I didn’t watch the match as Monday got class at 8 a.m. and I didn’t feel like watching also as Italy and France is not my favorite team after all. Numerous of my classmates watched the match and some of them brought their sleepy face to college as they only managed to sleep for 1.5 hours.

“Did you watch, Hong Ting?” friend asked
“No,” I said
“What a waste! Once in FOUR years you know?” friend said
“What a big deal? I can watch the match highlights later” I said
“So, how was the match?” I asked
“The first half was great and the second half was boring” friend said
“Luckily I didn’t waste my time on the match” I said

Italy are world champions for the fourth time after beating ten-man France 5-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw on Sunday. Twelve years after losing to Brazil in the first shoot-out in a FIFA World Cup Final, Italy made up for that heartbreak as all five men in blue converted their kicks to claim world football's greatest prize for the first time since 1982. For France the pain of defeat was compounded by the sight of Zinedine Zidane, on his last appearance as a professional, leaving the field having been sent off in extra time for butting Marco Materazzi off the ball.

From the match highlights that I had watched, Italy are deserved world champions after this narrowest of triumphs over France. For France and Zidane there was no fairy-tale ending and instead they are left to reflect on a bitter ending to an unexpectedly long adventure.
